Český Krumlov is one of those places that genuinely feels like it belongs in a storybook. With its winding medieval streets, colourful red-roofed buildings, castle tower and the Vltava River curling around the historic centre, it's easy to see why it's become such a popular destination. But rather than trying to see everything in a few hurried hours, consider starting early, wandering beyond the main square and taking time to explore the quieter corners of the town. If you can stay into the evening, you'll also see a much more peaceful and atmospheric side of Český Krumlov once many day-trippers have gone.
One practical thing to know before you arrive is that the historic centre is largely pedestrianised, so if you're driving, you'll need to use parking outside the centre and walk in.
